La Rioja
The declaration of intent that on 15 January 1889 accompanied the launch of the newspaper La Rioja made no secret of its aim to provide information in the service of the people who lived in what was then the province of Logroño. Almost 100 years before the birth of the administrative unit of La Rioja, the newspaper already reflected the sense of belonging to a region that would become one of the world’s best-known wine producers.
Landmarks reflected in the pages of the newspaper include the social and political development of La Rioja, the achievements of the wine industry, the cultural growth that culminated in the recognition of the monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla as world heritage, and the consolidation of the region as a birthplace of the Spanish language. The newspaper, in its commitment to reporting the truth, has covered all areas of interest to the people of La Rioja. In its long history, it has contributed to transforming La Rioja into one of the most prosperous regions in the country.
