La Verdad is the leading newspaper in Murcia in terms of both circulation and readership. Founded in 1903, it is the most influential media in the civil society in Murcia and it plays a major role in voicing the region’s aspirations for water and infrastructure and for a regeneration of public life.

In recent years, the newspaper has helped support the continuation of the Tagus-Segura Water Transfer, the drive for more transparency and citizen participation and the campaign for zero tolerance for corruption in Murcia. The newspaper published the first poems of Miguel Hernández and others of the so-called poets of 27. It continues to be a strong supporter of culture, sponsoring major cultural events in the region and organising exhibitions, art competitions, debates and gastronomical events.
