Since 7 March 1937, the history of Malaga has been written in the pages of Sur. The leading newspaper in the region was acquired by its workers in 1984 following the privatization of state media. Six years later, in 1990, it joined the group that is now Vocento.

The main headquarters is located in Malaga, while editions are published for Campo de Gibraltar, Melilla and Marbella-Estepona. The newspaper also publishes a series of supplements, plus Sur in English and Sur Deutsche in German.

The multimedia presence of the newspaper includes a local portal and two specialist supplements for Easter in Andalusia, Pasión del Sur and Sur en Feria, which include information about the traditional fair.
